Introduction
The Department of Microbiology was established in Fall 2013.The Department currently offers only one degree programmes i-e BS (Hons) 4-years programme. The departmental research labs are fully equipped with modern research facilities. Sophisticated equipment such as video gel documentation system, UV visible double beam spectrophotometer, ultra low freezing system, electrophoresis system,(vertical and horizontal) PCR facility, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, Liquid gas chromatography, flame photometer, high speed centrifuge, laminar flow cabinet, autoclaves, shaking incubator etc are available in the Department.

The Department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members to supervise students of the programmes. The department has established research collaboration with the teaching hospitals of Hazara Division i-e Ayub Medical college, Frontier Medical College and Women Medical College Abbottabad and DHQ Hospital Mansehra. The Department is also in the process of coordinating with other national and international research organizations and labs.

Microbiology is an exceptionally broad discipline encompassing specialties as diverse as biochemistry, cell biology, genetics. Our goal is to provide a balanced introduction to the discipline. A microbiologist must be acquainted with many biological disciplines and with all major groups of micro-organisms i-e viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoans. Students know an introduction to the entire field, before concentrating on specialized areas that might be more interesting to them.

Biological science has been progressing with unprecedented growth, deepening of knowledge and proliferation of methods of investigation. At the same time interdisciplinary has become essential as the barrier between traditionally bioseience is disappearing. All the branches of biology speak the same language and use the same molecular tools. It is not surprising that elements of these molecular biosciences can be combined at an advanced level of research. Keeping in view this concept of interdisciplinary, Hazara University established labs of Microbiology and biochemistry. Our ultimate goal is to established center for Molecular Biosciences.
